RMS Information & Updates

There is not a notification generated from Blue Sombrero. The user is automatically removed from the team and any website security roles are removed from the user’s account.

The customary emails from Safe Haven will continue to be generated by the National Office staff members.

Background check results and statuses will be processed by the National Office as they are today with two exceptions. First, background checks will be automatically submitted to the vendor once a Membership Year and the applicant will submit a SSN and consent for screening directly to the vendor during the registration process. AYSO and Blue Sombrero will not store the applicant’s SSN.

Secondly, volunteers will not be assignable to positions until their background check has been processed for the Membership Year. Background check results vary in the time it takes to be processed by the vendor depending on any number of factors including the county searched or commonality of the name.

Safety Policies, Forms, & Insurance

Safe Haven™
Safe Haven™ is a program designed to address a growing need for child and volunteer protection. There are four elements in the Safe Haven™ intervention cycle: Create Policies, Screen Volunteers, Train Volunteers, and Promote Education and Awareness. These are intended to stop child abuse and its agents before they get into the program.

The Volunteer Protection Act of 1997
This law grants immunity from certain types of prosecution for volunteers who meet its requirements. In order to receive full protection under the law, AYSO volunteers must: 1. be properly trained and certified; 2. be performing duties as laid out in a position description; 3. act within the scope of AYSO’s Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines.

AYSO Certification
AYSO’s goal is to provide training certification for all its volunteers. Certification offers the hope that every AYSO child will be treated with understanding, compassion, and respect.

Kids Zone™
The national media has focused on the negative, even violent, behavior of players, coaches and parents involved in youth sports. Kids Zone™ is a dynamic program targeted to eliminate negative sideline behavior. Kids Zone™ buttons and signs are distributed throughout the Region and parents are asked to sign the Kids Zone™ Pledge promising to behave within the guidelines of the program.

AYSO’s Safe Haven® program is designed to address the growing need for both Child and Volunteer Protection in youth sports. The components of the program help create a safe, fair, fun and family friendly environment – “safe haven” – for all participants.

The Coach's Clipboard

AYSO makes a commitment to provide a safe place for children to play and compete. The coach has a responsibility to help make the environment safe, as well as fun. To ensure the safety of both children and volunteers, each volunteer is required to take a short in-person or online-training session called Safe Haven™. It focuses on safety and appropriate behavior with children as well as first aid and other on-field issues. Agreeing to a background check is also required for each volunteer.

Volunteer Compliance & Assessment

Division Coordinators should recruit coaches, assistant coaches, referees and team parents for the division for which they are responsible. They are also responsible for making sure that all volunteers within their division are Safe Haven™ certified. A Division Coordinator could be the point person for volunteers filling out the Volunteer Application Form within a particular division.
